137th anniversary
Shiloh AME Church will celebrate its 137th anniversary with a luncheon on Saturday, July 26, at 2 p.m. Several of the church’s members will receive special recognition during the luncheon at New Day Christian Church, 1023 E. Union St. The deadline to purchase tickets was Monday, July 21, and no tickets will be sold at the door. Susan Parker is the Anniversary Committee chair and the Rev. Gwendolyn I. Benjamin is the pastor.

Israel Chapel A.M.E. Church, on Israel Chapel Church Road in Connelly Springs, will be celebrating their annual homecoming at 7 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Abdue Knox, recently assigned to Pastor St. Joseph A.M.E. Church, Durham, will preach for that service. Knox previously served as pastor at Greater Bethel A.M.E. Church, Charlotte. A Sunday afternoon service on Aug. 3 will be held at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Allen Warren, Pastor of Gaston Chapel, Morganton, to deliver the message.

The NAACP Burke County Unit #5367-B will be holding their regular unit meeting at 6 p.m. at the Mountain View Community Recreation Center located at 645 1st St., Â鶹´«Ã½. Several items will be discussed, as the group continues to plan events celebrating 90 years as a Burke County Unit.
