Âé¶¹´«Ã½ hospital UNC Health Blue Ridge is losing a longtime top administrators at the end of the month. The health care organization has announced Chief Operating Officer Jon Mercer will step down June 30.
Mercer is going to work at Novant Health System, where he will serve as president of Clemmons Medical Center in Clemmons, a release from UNC Health Blue Ridge said.
“Jon has been an integral part of our organization for more than two decades,†Gary Paxson, president and CEO of UNC Health Blue Ridge, said in the release. “His unwavering commitment to excellence and compassion for both our patients and team members have left an indelible mark on Blue Ridge. While we are saddened to see him go, we are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished and grateful for his many contributions.â€

Mercer has worked in the Blue Ridge system for more than 25 years, the release said. He started his career with the organization in cardiac rehab and has since become a leader and advocate across the health system, the release said. Throughout his tenure, he has played a role in advancing patient care, mentoring staff and strengthening the hospital’s connection with the community, the release said.
“We wish Jon the very best as he embarks on this exciting next chapter of his career,†Paxson said. “His impact will be felt here for years to come.â€
At this time, UNC Health Blue Ridge will not be appointing an interim COO. The organization plans to asses its leadership structure, the release said.
UNC Health Blue Ridge will host a farewell celebration for Mercer from 4 to 6 p.m. in the McGalliard Falls Conference Room on its Valdese campus on June 18.
