Details of the Mountain View shooting
Maj. Aaron Turk from the Catawba County Sheriff's office said the shooting began from a hillside in a neighboring yard, next to a pool party being held at 1125 Walnut Acres Drive.
In court on Thursday, Assistant District Attorney Timothy Gould said 50 rounds were fired into the pool area during the party. More than 100 people were at the party, the sheriff's office said.
Turk said there were also gunshots from inside the house and from Walnut Acres Drive. Turk said Wednesday that the sheriff's office is working to determine if the gunfire from inside the house was in response to the initial shots.Â
Turk said previously that the party was advertised on social media and party promoters were taking money for entry into the event.Â
Turk said the evidence so far suggests that Killian was among shooters on the hillside responsible for the seemingly unprovoked attack.Â
Overall, there were about 80 shots fired. Eight to 10 of the 11 victims had gunshot wounds, Turk said. The victims’ ages ranged from 16 to 58, the sheriff's office said previously.

The man who died in the Sunday shooting was identified as 58-year-old Shawn Patrick Hood, of Lenoir. No one is charged with murder as of Wednesday.

Garon Killian gets $200,000 bondÂ
Gould argued in court that in this particular case, the judge could consider not allowing Killian pre-trial release, since Killian was out on pre-trial release for previous attempted murder charges when the shooting happened.
In April, Killian was charged with seven felony counts of attempted first-degree murder and seven felony counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill,  The April shooting took place near the Party City store in Hickory. Killian’s bond for those charges was set at $50,000. Â
At a press conference on Wednesday, Catawba County Sheriff Don Brown said he's outraged by the judge's decision to set a bond for Killian.Â

Catawba County Sheriff Don Brown stares at Garon Nathaniel Killian during Killian's first appearance in Catawba County District Court for one count of attempted first-degree murder. Killian received a $200,000 secured bond.Â
"He bonded out of jail on April 14. Forty-eight days later, all of our lives changed," Brown said. "But despite my disappointment about this bond, this investigation continues."Â
Hickory Police Chief Reed Baer echoed a similar frustration with the bond.Â
"It is beyond frustrating that someone with pending charges for multiple counts of attempted murder is out in the community in the first place," Baer said. "It is unimaginable that this same person can then be charged additional charges from a separate incident to include attempted murder and could be out in our community tonight."Â
If Killian does make bond for the current charges in front of him, Judge Mark Killian said Garon Killian would have to wear an electronic monitor and adhere to a curfew of 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Killian spoke in court.
“I apologize for being involved in this situation. It happened,†Killian said.
Judge Mark Killian interrupted Garon Killian as he spoke. The judge said he only wanted to hear Garon Killian’s comments about the bond, not the case itself.Â
Garon Killian then said he would be grateful to receive bond but would understand if it was not granted.

Garon Nathaniel Killian was surrounded by Catawba County Sheriff's Office bailiffs during a first appearance on an attempted first-degree murder charge linked to a mass shooting in Mountain View.Â
Huff had criminal history
Huff was previously convicted in two separate cases: one including charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and another including attempted murder.
In March 2023, Huff was arrested and charged with attempted murder in a shooting. While out on bond for that charge in April 2023, he was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm within city limits.
His bond was raised to $150,000 after prosecutors requested his bond be revoked.Â
Court documents show that Huff violated probation orders multiple times, as recently as January of this year.Â
'He doesn’t like being pushed'
Ohana Calloway was at the courthouse in Newton for Killian's first appearance Wednesday. She said she’s known Killian since high school and considers him a brother.Â
“I knew him before he had tattoos,†Calloway said. “And he’s not a different person, honest to God.â€Â
Calloway said she has the kind of relationship with Killian where she’s not afraid to tell him he’s in the wrong.Â

Ohana Calloway, a friend of Garon Killian, spoke after Killian's first appearance in court. Calloway said she was on her way to the party when the shooting happened and was one of the people who called 911.
But with this, Calloway said, she believes he is innocent.Â
“Garon is honestly a nice person, but he doesn’t like being pushed over,†Calloway said.
Calloway was on the way to the pool party at 1125 Walnut Acres Drive in Mountain View early Sunday when she said she heard gunshots.Â
Calloway called 911 at 12:46 a.m., she said.
She then called Killian at 12:49 a.m., but Calloway said Killian didn’t answer. Calloway said she wasn’t sure if Killian was at the party when she called.Â
Calloway said she knew about the party after seeing several social media posts promoting the party, but she was not sure exactly who was there.Â
Calloway did not name anyone, but she did say Killian had “beef†with many people. She did not say the nature of the disagreements.Â
“I don’t really know anything else besides that. It could’ve started from there or it could have started from something else,†Calloway said. “With this generation, the beef can start from the smallest things, I’ve realized.â€Â
